Facebook is already becoming too 'public' in terms of sharing info. I think the idea of timeline is a bit creepy. A few friends I know have tried it and have deactivated their accounts very soon after, saying it messed up their account and that they felt exposed....I think it should be optional and not enforced on all users.

Re: CandidSky’s social network wins business award

Also featured on the front page of the newspaper today.

Re: Oldham Business Network nominated for Pride in Oldham award
Thanks Carl!

The awards are on the 9th of December so not long now.

I believe the future of social networking is now in niche networks. Although there were less features at the time I was so happy that the core functionality worked, and it was fast.

The core benefits are: If a computer fails, all files are backedup and can be accessed on any other computer using the web based application. Once the computer is fixed, just install dropbox and its like nothing happened, all files are restored! Not only this but you can sync several computers so multiple people working on the same set of files is handled with great ease and speed.

These days with the iPad and Mobile applications I can access files no matter where I am and even forward them onto people via email.

Sending files to people via email is really inefficient, so instead give them a secure link to the files on dropbox. Just right click in windows explorer and click "Get dropbox sharable link". This can be posted anywhere, facebook, email etc.

We initially installed this for business use, but since you can now choose which folders you want to sync on your computer from the dropbox cloud, it folders for personal use. So this means I can have the above mentioned benefits for my personal projects too.

You need this! If not for the simple fact that computers break! Make sure your files are safe.

Re: Oldham Business Network nominated for Pride in Oldham award

Thanks Steve!

Re: Oldham Business Network nominated for Pride in Oldham award

Well done Dave, fingers crossed you win :)

Re: Oldham Business Network nominated for Pride in Oldham award

An article in the local press about the nomination:
http://www.oldham-chronicle.co...

Re: Steve Jobs: a huge loss to the technology industry

A great loss, but somebody whos story and teachings will continue to inspire people for many a year to come.

Re: Zuckerberg announces new Facebook Timeline feature

I totally agree... Zuckerberg often says he wants everyone to share their entire lives on facebook, have open discussions without the need to tailor your identity for different groups of people. But by bringing in features such as timeline he could cause people to become wary of things they put on facebook, meaning less of their life is shared online; the opposite of what Zuck wants. For some people sharing less wouldn't be a bad thing but it would mean less activity on facebook.

Re: Zuckerberg announces new Facebook Timeline feature

You've hit the nail on the head Tom, basically at present it's pretty difficult for a new friend on Facebook to trawl back through time and find your posts/photos/comments from anything more than a couple of weeks ago (if you're an average user). With the new timeline function a new acquaintance will be able to view and scrutinize as far back as your Facebook history goes... potentially opening up access to past relationships, both personal and work, and giving access to your views and opinion from a different time and place.
I dread to think of some of the rubbish I've posted in the (not necessarily too distant) past, which probably isn't a reflection of who I am now. Also I'm not a fan of PDA's, but I have friends who are, and the thought of a new partner being able to potentially view your past proclamations of love for a prior relationship is somewhat discomforting!

Re: Zuckerberg announces new Facebook Timeline feature

I think it is only me that says 'I love updates to Facebook'. It's just interesting to see what they are striving for and trying to achieve.

The timeline will be interesting and I think its a useful 'tool' to those families and friends who end up all across the world. I also see it a great way to organise your now digital life into a cloud based solution rather than on a local and very unreliable piece of software (iphoto!)The recent changes seem to suit me well but I seem to be the only person I know who likes them! Looking forward to the Facebook chat application on Iphone as if its works well it could well replace text/BBM.Privacy is always an issue but you just need to keep on top of it.

Re: Zuckerberg announces new Facebook Timeline feature

Hi Tom, Thanks for your comment. I understand your concerns but I'm not one to be worried about Big Brother visions of the future as I've never personally be harmed by sharing things on facebook.
Interesting ... Could you explain a bit more about how you see this opening us up to public scrutiny?

One thing that I do see wrong with this picture is that it is human nature for us to change our lifestyles, personalities and behaviours as time goes on. Have you ever read a message you sent someone 5 years ago on facebook and cringed? By allowing the world to browse our entire history of facebook posts we're wide open to judgement based on our old selves rather than who we are right now. Here's an interesting article on how we become completely different people every seven years. http://dreamhawk.com/body-and-...

Re: Zuckerberg announces new Facebook Timeline feature

As much as losing past comments/posts/links etc is a shame, and I would appreciate a way to retain these in a tidy and concise way, this quote is a concern... 'Zuckerberg said he wants people to share "their entire lives on Facebook'.
I for one am still slightly terrified at the quantity of personal information stored on the internet, and specifically on Facebook. An option to 'backfill' your info from pre-Facebook times is just further opening up your personal life to public scrutiny, albeit with the increased security options/common sense that people should apply. But still, however useful this Timeline may prove to be, Zuckerbergs vision is a scary one.

Re: Zuckerberg announces new Facebook Timeline feature

Hi Tom, Thanks for your response. I've heard a lot of negative talk on facebook from friends, but its mainly about the layout change and the addition of the ticker in the top right. The majority of people don't have the Timeline feature yet.

You can get Timeline early by following this tutorial:
http://techcrunch.com/2011/09/...
